Social media and your posts

Share your own stuff!

Why aren’t you sharing it?  If you don’t, why should anyone else?  Why are you waiting on them?

If you use WordPress for your website or blog, there is a VERY easy way to do this.  Go to your dashboard, click on Settings at the bottom of the menu, and choose Sharing.

On this page, at the top you can choose settings for WordPress to automatically share your blog posts with selected social networks.  Below that, there are settings which allow you to add sharing buttons to your blog posts so that readers can also share your posts.

BUT…

After you choose those buttons (I suggest at a minimum Facebook, Google+, Pinterest and Twitter, but include other buttons where you have an account as well), SHARE your own posts!  How will other members of those social media sites find your posts if someone hasn’t shared them?

You need to be the first.

Go do it.  Now!

  1. I’m going to comment here because I think it’s worthy.

For some reason, even though I should have known better right (which is why I posted this in the first place) … I would add posts over on my dance website, but other than having it automatically post to my Facebook fan/business page, I never shared it elsewhere. All those cool little buttons at the bottom of my post, and I wasn’t clicking on any!

My dance website usually gets, on average, between 1 and 5 visitors per day. Except on the days that I would have a really AWESOME post that my Facebook followers would want to read. Not that many (but it’s also a niche … it’s ballroom … and it’s in Fort Worth … and I don’t work on my website full-time).

    But…

This morning, before writing the above post, I had my “ah-ha” moment and started sharing my ballroom post by clicking the share buttons below my own article. I just checked my site stats … and I’ve had 30 views in about 3 hours.

    30 in 3 hours versus 5 in 24 hours.

I’d say proof that it works.
